- Trim dead space at the start or end of clips before exporting rather than leaving pauses in the final render.
- Remove weaker clips flagged with a lower quality score rather than keeping every imported clip in the plan.
- Mute audio if you don't need the source sound — this has a modest but real effect on total file size.
Why this matters beyond just the download
File size affects more than upload speed to a platform — it also counts against your account's storage. Signed-in users get 25 GB of private cloud storage for source clips and exports combined, so consistently rendering at 1080x1920 for projects you don't need at full resolution can fill that allowance faster than expected.
Your 60 exported minutes per month (Starter plan) are counted by rendered duration, not file size or resolution. Storage and export minutes are two different limits worth tracking separately.
What won't reduce file size
Re-exporting the same edit plan at the same resolution and length repeatedly won't produce a meaningfully smaller file — the encoder settings for a given resolution are fixed, not adjustable per export.
